Join us for a night of great music featuring Donnie Fritts, Gary Nicholson, Russell Smith and Billy Swan at the Bluebird Café on Thursday May 20th at 9 p.m.
Donnie Fritts, the soulful singer-songwriter from Muscle Shoals, is a member of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame and a good friend to the Foundation. A longtime Kris Kristofferson sideman, Donnie’s songs have been recorded by Ray Charles, Robert Plant, Tina Turner, Dusty Springfield, Jerry Lee Lewis, Willie Nelson, among many others. Gary Nicholson has had over 350 songs recorded, won 26 ASCAP awards, and is responsible for over a dozen major label hits. Gary’s musical start came when he landed in Los Angeles forming a band with college classmates Don Henley and Jim Ed Norman, and later joining Linda Ronstadt’s band, which would evolve into the Eagles. Relocating to Nashville in 1980, Gary soon found success on the charts with recordings by artists such as Vince Gill, Montgomery Gentry, Alabama, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Brooks & Dunn, and Ringo Starr. Russell Smith, the Grammy Award winning former lead vocalist and founder of the Amazing Rhythm Aces, has had great success as an artist and songwriter. His number one songs include “Look Heart, No Hands” (Randy Travis), “Third Rate Romance” (Sammy Kershaw), “Don’t Go to Strangers” (T. Graham Brown), and “Heartbeat in the Darkness” (Don Williams). Billy Swan, the rockabilly singer from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, is best known for his 1970s crossover smash hit, “I Can Help”. Billy reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and Country charts, and the song was later covered by Elvis Presley. Billy’s songs have also been recorded by Waylon Jennings, Conway Twitty, Mel Tillis, and Clyde McPhatter, who had a Top Ten hit with Billy’s song, “Lover Please”. Tickets go on sale Thursday May 13th at 8 a.m. and can be purchased by clicking here. Reservations are strongly recommended. We hope you will join us! |
